Theory - Contemporary

Our Single Study program is a great way to study a single class or two offered at WAAPA without committing to one of our full-time programs.

Be introduced to the fundamental principles and concepts of music theory and their application within a contemporary music context. Boost your basic theory skills as they are developed through an examination of key musical elements, with the study of examples drawn from the contemporary music canon and used to reinforce the underpinning theoretical constructs.

On completion, all participants should be able to:

  • analyse music using basic harmonic systems;
  • apply an understanding of basic rhythmic concepts;
  • demonstrate an understanding of music theory fundamentals;
  • discriminate basic theoretical concepts in written and recorded formats; and
  • recognize and construct selected harmonic concepts.
