Short courses

WAAPA short courses are a great way to get a taste of what the academy has to offer, fine tune your skills or even learn some new ones. Every year WAAPA offers a number of short courses from May through to October, aimed at everyone from teenagers to professionals, in a range of different areas, with one-day, weekend and weeknight courses available.

For teenagers looking to explore and develop their creative side, Backstage Boot Camp for budding sound and lighting designers and stage managers and Acting Up! For aspiring actors, held during the mid-year school holiday break, gives secondary students the unique opportunity to see what happens behind-the-scenes in a live theatre production. Students are mentored by industry-based professionals throughout the week, and are then given the chance to showcase their new skills in a devised work they present to family and friends at the end of the course.

WAAPA also offers mid-year musical theatre workshops aimed at teenagers wanting to improve their techniques across a range of different areas, including dance, jazz, acting and improvisation.

Budding professionals looking for a chance to sharpen their skills can take part in a number of different courses, including Contemporary Vocal Performance and acting workshops, led by WAAPA academics.

Those looking to prepare for auditions can take full advantage of WAAPA lecturers and academics' body of knowledge, as they lead Music Theatre Audition and Acting Audition masterclasses, which take participants through what it takes to achieve the audition success.

For those wanting build up their skill set there are also Acting Foundation short courses on offer.
