The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts opens its theatres and studios in December and January to present a host of exciting courses for children and young people.
WAAPA’s Summer School offers fun-filled courses providing intense, creative training for anyone in upper primary school and older. The courses build confidence, teamwork and self-esteem while developing the skills necessary to be a successful performer on the stage and screen. Choose a course that’s right for you!
Courses range from those dedicated to primary school age children (9 - 12) The WAAPAettes to middle school aged children (12 - 15) Shakespeare Intensive and The Total WAAPA Experience, to courses for teens (15 - 18) for Screen Acting 2 and Acting Up 2.
The WAAPAettes is three days of fun-filled drama activities for upper primary children, utilising games, improvisation, voice and movement with the children presenting a performance to family and friends at its conclusion. Acting Up 1 is a week-long introduction for the stage including the basic skills to develop your voice, body and imagination. The follow up Acting Up 2 expands on these skills, concentrating on the same techniques WAAPA’s full-time students develop to be confident performers, including voice, movement and the fundamentals of acting technique.
The Acting Boot Camp Intensive is a great workshop for young aspiring actors with some experience under their belt. Enjoy five days of extension activities in voice, movement, improvisation and scene study. A short presentation of your work will be performed for family and friends on the last day. The two Screen Acting programs introduce participants to the fundamentals of Screen Acting.
