Brent is a Lecturer at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
Brent Grapes is the Principal Trumpet of the West Australian Symphony, having previously held the position of Principal Trumpet in the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Following completion of his early musical studies in Perth, Brent studied at the Juilliard School in New York, during which time he was also a member of the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra.
In 2008 and 2009, Brent competed in the US National Trumpet competition, winning first place for two consecutive years and subsequently as a soloist Brent has performed the Haydn, Aratunian and Jolivet trumpet concerti with orchestras in the United States, Australia, China and New Zealand.
Currently the Head of Brass at the WA Academy of Performing Arts at Edith Cowan University, Brent has conducted masterclasses at the University of Auckland and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). His former teachers include David Elton, Raymond Mase and Mark Gould. In 2018 Brent will perform as a member of the Australian World Orchestra, and make his debut as a guest musician with the Australian Brass Quintet.
