Second Study Keyboard - Jazz

Our Single Study program is a great way to study a single class or two offered at WAAPA without committing to one of our full-time programs.

In this Second Study Keyboard unit, basic jazz piano skills will be taught in order to provide support for the wider course areas. Hone in on improving your keyboard talents as you begin with scales and arpeggios, then move toward providing simple accompaniment patterns using 'shell' and 'basic' voicings.

On completion, all participants should be able to:

  • apply voicings to a real accompaniment situation;
  • play a simple accompaniment using 'shell' and 'basic' voicings;
  • play simple scales and arpeggios with correct fingering;
  • understand and play 'poly-chords' and 'slash' chords; and
  • understand the construction and structure of jazz chord voicings.
