How we're helping WAAPA ballet dancers achieve the impossible

Friday, 24 June 2016

Ballet dancers spinning four or five times while balancing on one foot shouldn’t be possible. We find out how WAAPA’s elite dancers are doing it.

Researchers at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) are using cutting edge motion capture technology to find out how ballet dancers defy the laws of physics.

Working with WAAPA’s elite ballet dancers Dr Luke Hopper is trying to figure out how tiny movements help ballet dancers keep their balance while turning balanced on one leg.

You can watch the video on Luke’s research on ECU’s YouTube Channel, or if you would like read more about Dr Hopper's research, please visit the research project web page.
