An annual tradition since 2007, WAAPA in the Park is a family-friendly evening of fabulous music performed under the stars in Mount Lawley’s Ron Stone Park.
Proudly presented by the City of Stirling, Edith Cowan University and WAAPA, this free concert on Saturday, 23 March is your opportunity to hear the best talent from Australia's premier performing arts academy. Be wowed by WAAPA’s most accomplished Jazz and Contemporary student musicians as they rock, bop and strut their way through an awesome collection of old and new jazz, funk, soul, R ‘n’ B and pop classics.
Contemporary Music Director, Matt Allen has been working with his students on a stellar set of songs.
“The students will perform some re-imagined and re-arranged versions of classic songs by some of the world’s biggest artists including Queen, The Beatles, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber. It will also feature a massive medley featuring some of the biggest hits from Motown,” he said.
“Expect a plethora or styles and eras to be played throughout the night in what will be an electrifying performance by the Jazz and Contemporary Music students at WAAPA.”
These aspiring stars of the future are superbly supported backstage by WAAPA’s Production and Arts Management students, who take care of everything else needed to bring this event to life, including the stage management, lighting, sound and front-of-house management. Joining proceedings will be WAAPA Broadcasting graduate, ABC radio personality and all-round host with the most, Russell Woolf on MC duties.
City of Stirling Mayor, Mark Irwin, said he welcomes WAAPA to Ron Stone Park for their annual outdoor performance.
“WAAPA in the Park not only showcases the talented WAAPA performers on stage, but the equally talented students who work behind the scenes to make it a success,” Cr Irwin said.
“I know the community looks forward to this performance each year and we are very proud to be able to partner with WAAPA to deliver this event.”
