Get ready to be inspired, provoked and entertained as WAAPA’s 3rd Year Acting students take their creative talents to Downstairs at The Maj in two seasons of brand-new original short works.
New Voices is an exciting new project in which WAAPA’s Acting students embrace the imaginative freedom to devise and perform their own works.
The project was initiated as part of WAAPA’s commitment to training performing artists able to generate their own work that can be developed for independent theatre platforms and festivals.
New Voices draws on all elements of the students’ training in acting, movement and voice, as well as introducing them to the writing and devising process.
Under the dramaturgical and mentoring guidance of Emele Ugavule and Chris Isaacs, the New Voices pieces range in content from re-imaginings of Shakespeare to new writing, from intimate storytelling to dynamic physical theatre.
New Voices is being performed in two short seasons that each showcase half of this year’s graduating Acting cohort. The first season runs from 25-27 March, followed by a second season from 27-29 May.
Created by the next generation of performing artists, New Voices serves up short, sharp, contemporary reflections of who we are right now – expect talent, daring and originality in spades.
