On Tuesday 4 October, WAAPA hosted the Vice Chancellor’s Shakespeare Awards in the Roundhouse Theatre.

For the fifth year running, ECU Vice-Chancellor Professor Steve Chapman CBE generously donated the prize pool for this competition which gives WAAPA’s talented graduating Acting students the opportunity to create, direct and perform their favourite Shakespearian text or adaptation.

In WAAPA’s 40th year of Actor Training the night was a celebration of the students talent, invention, sense of community and creativity.

The winners this year were:

  • Best Performance - Tinashe Mangwana This is not a Love Story $2000
  • Best Performance - Radhika Mudaliya Nāyika named Hamlet $2000
  • Best Production - Sean Halley for SUN KING $2000
  • Peoples Choice Award - THE WITCHES, Roxanne Gardiner, Laura Shaw and Will Bastow $1000

The judging panel for the awards included Joanna Tu, Matt Edgerton and Nigel Rideout, all part of WAAPA’s rich acting history.

Congratulations to everyone involved and special thanks to Professor Steve Chapman for his generosity and support.
