WAAPA is based in Perth at the Mount Lawley campus of Edith Cowan University. We enjoy national recognition and an international reputation for the quality of our graduates.
We offer full time courses in acting, Aboriginal theatre, arts management, broadcasting, costume, dance, design, lighting, music, music theatre, props & scenery, sound and stage management. It also provides a range of short courses for beginners to professionals, plus training packages for the corporate sector.
Each year students, staff and guest artists collaborate to present over 200 public performances – musicals, opera, contemporary dance, classical ballet, chamber music, jazz, theatre, film, new compositions, recitals, percussion concerts, contemporary music, design exhibitions and more.
WAAPA graduates have careers worldwide and many have become exceptionally well known, eg Hugh Jackman, Lisa McCune, Emma Matthews to name just a few.
The Friends of the Academy is a dedicated group of WAAPA supporters made up of lovers of the performing arts from all over Western Australia and beyond. Our shared interest is in supporting the students as they study at WAAPA and prepare for their professional careers.
When you join the Friends, you will have the opportunity to watch the development of this young talent and engage with these students as they progress through their training. Very importantly, the financial support provided by the Friends is crucial in assisting these students to achieve their artistic dreams.
A particular benefit of being a Friend is in knowing that your membership fees are supporting talented students. This can be through support of travel on international tours, short term loans, purchase of instruments and equipment, assistance with relocation expenses associated with secondments plus a range of other projects.
