Venues & studios

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts has an impressive range of production, rehearsal, teaching and performance facilities and services available to support students and academics in their pursuit of excellence.

On stage

We currently house eight public performance spaces which are constantly in use for performances and concerts. These include the Geoff Gibbs Theatre - a 270-seat proscenium arch theatre, the Roundhouse Theatre - a 130-seat court style theatre, the 200-seat Music Auditorium, an outdoor Amphitheatre, Enright Studio, Dance Studios and Jazz Studio all designed for more intimate performances.

Behind the scenes

We have expanded considerably over the years, with the latest addition of a new Workshop being opened in mid 2011. Offering increased work space, storage and top of the range equipment for props, scenery and set construction; the workshop is the hive for building the foundations of over 30 WAAPA performances per year.

2004 saw the opening of what is now called the 'east wing' which encompasses four purpose built rehearsal studio spaces, a state of the art recording studio, electronics studio and four production workshops for our design and costume students.

WAAPA now boasts twelve large rehearsal and dance studios, numerous music and ensemble studios, a specialised visual and performing arts library collection, and numerous exhibition spaces.

Hiring space

Most of our venues are available for hire (with the exception of the Geoff Gibbs and Roundhouse Theatres) depending on the current teaching and production timetables. Those interested in hiring WAAPA venues should submit an 'Application to hire WAAPA facilities' form and/or contact the WAAPA Manager on (61 8) 9370 6993.
