The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), is relocating to a new, state-of-the-art campus in the heart of Perth's CBD, called ECU City, which is scheduled to open in semester one of 2026. This move is part of a broader transformation of the university with the new campus integrating with the Perth Busport and other city infrastructure.
The new campus will house WAAPA alongside other ECU schools like Business and Law, and Creative Humanities. It will feature eight public performance and rehearsal spaces, including a recital hall, playhouse theatre, and dance theatre, among others. The campus aims to provide world-class performance facilities for students and the community, fostering a vibrant hub of education, research, creativity, and technology innovation.
Key highlights of the new WAAPA at ECU City include:
Advanced acoustics, box-in-box engineering, and cutting-edge technology will be incorporated into the performance spaces.
The campus is designed to be easily accessible via public transportation, with direct connections to the Perth Busport and the METRONET transport network.
The new location will bring students, staff, and audience members into the heart of the city, supporting local businesses and creating a dynamic CBD environment.
A $30 million philanthropic partnership between ECU and the Minderoo Foundation will help fund the specialist fit-out of the performance spaces and support WAAPA's long-term programming.
