Rolling Stone has described him as “world class” and The Sydney Morning Herald used the word “genius”. He has performed with legends of the jazz world yet is equally at home working with pop superstar Sia and super-hip jazz-funk band Hiatus Kaiyote.

Grammy-nominated and ARIA winning jazz pianist and composer Barney McAll honed his incredible jazz skills over two decades in New York City, before returning to his home town of Melbourne.

Now, proudly supported by the Brigid and Ronald W. Woss AM of the Woss Group of Companies, Barney McAll brings his formidable talents to Perth’s Geoff Gibbs Theatre for two nights only, on Friday 6 May and Saturday 7 May at 7.30pm.

Backed by WAAPA’s talented Jazz students, McAll performs a myriad of musical styling's from big band sounds and vocal ensembles to the ever-popular piano trio format. This is a concert that will showcase both McAll’s amazing diversity, and the skill and talent of WAAPA’s students.

McAll spent 20 years in the New York band of ex-Miles Davis saxophonist, Gary Bartz. He also worked with frontline jazz saxophonists Dewey Redman and Billy Harper, soul greats Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker, and spent a year as Sia Furler’s musical director. He has played on over 100 recordings, has 12 solo records and a string of music industry awards to his name, including the 2015 ARIA Music Award for Best Jazz Album.

Since returning to Australia, McAll has continued to widen his horizons on projects ranging from jazz to choirs. His recent collaboration with Melbourne’s Hiatus Kaiyote for his latest album, Precious Energy, garnered rave reviews, with AllMusic writing that is “a magnum opus that belongs alongside the kaleidoscopic 21st century jazz-inspired sounds emerging from London, Chicago, and Los Angeles, though it towers above most of them.”

So don’t miss this amazing opportunity to hear an Australian jazz legend live onstage for an exhilarating night of music – book now!
