In March, Perth audiences can experience the brilliance of the world-renowned concert pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk performing at WAAPA’s new home at the Minderoo Centre for Performing Excellence at ECU City.

Winner of major international competitions, the Ukrainian-born Australian pianist has been hailed as “an extraordinary talent” by Vladimir Ashkenazy and “the most compelling pianist of his generation” by Roger Woodward. His performances receive rave reviews and thrill audiences around the world.

Thanks to the generous support of Minderoo Foundation, Gavrylyuk is WAAPA’s inaugural Premier Visiting Artist, bringing his extraordinary musicianship, wisdom and inspiration to students, staff and audiences. His week-long residency to mentor the Classical Piano students culminates in two unforgettable piano concerts.

On Friday 20 March, Gavrylyuk will perform Piano Virtuoso, a rare solo recital on WAAPA’s new Steinway grand piano in the magnificent McCusker Recital Hall. Witness one of the world’s finest musicians at the peak of his powers, performing on one of the world’s most beautiful musical instruments. Tickets are selling fast for this concert, so don’t delay, book now.

If you miss out on seeing Gavrylyuk perform, you can still experience the astonishing results of Gavrylyuk’s mentorship of WAAPA’s music students.

On Saturday 21 March, WAAPA’s Classical Piano students present Reaching for the Stars, a concert of Romantic masterworks by Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninov, inspired by Premier Visiting Artist Alexander Gavrylyuk. Experience sweeping drama, melodic beauty and exceptional piano playing in a showcase of bright young talents transformed by one of the world’s leading pianists.

“We are thrilled to have a pianist of Alexander’s calibre here with us at WAAPA,” says Dr Tonya Lemoh, WAAPA’s Head of Classical Piano.
