This month, get down to the Rosemount Hotel in North Perth for four nights of incredible music performed by the stars of the future.
WAAPA’s graduating cohort of Contemporary Music students will showcase their fabulous talents in Main Stage Sessions over consecutive Monday and Tuesday nights on the 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th of May.
Now in their fourth year of studies, these students are getting ready to embark on their professional careers when they graduate at the end of this year. So it is fitting that they each take a turn in the spotlight on the stage of the Rosemount Hotel to display their emerging musicianship and their artistry.
Over the four nights, each student will perform a 25-minute set, backed by a full band, of their own original works plus reimagined arrangements of songs you know and love. These performances, featuring an array of styles drawing from many genres of music, are the culmination of a semester’s work exploring each student’s creativity.
Dr Matt Allen, Course Coordinator of WAAPA’s Contemporary Music program, explains that these ‘gigs’ at the Rosemount Hotel are an invaluable part of the students’ artistic experience.
“The real-world, hands-on preparation for these shows is totally relevant to our students’ professional working lives as performers,” he says.
WAAPA’s long-running Contemporary Music program has consistentely produced formidable talent, as demonstrated by national stars such as Tim Minchin and Meg Mac, through to more recent alumni such as Blake Rose and Siobhan Cotchin.
With only a few weeks until Main Stage Sessions hits the stage of the ‘Rosie’, Dr Allen hopes that audiences are impressed by the enthusiasm and potential of these passionate and creative young artists.
So this May, come down to the Rosemount Hotel to support the next generation of West Australian musicians as they inspire and entertain with powerhouse performances and sensational sounds.
