Background

Fleur Kingsland has been the coordinator of costume at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) since 2008, lecturing and mentoring students in costume construction and management for live production.

In addition to the multiple productions she has been involved with in her time at WAAPA, Fleur designed and coordinated costumes for the productions of: Kim McCarthy’s The Rehearsal (2016); Perth Theatre Company’s (PTC) The Song Was Wrong (co designer Aurelio Costarella 2015) and The Removalists (2010); Not the Mama Production’s States of Shock (2005); After the Fair (2002); and LINK’s dance production of Feeding Time (2002). She also constructed costumes, soft props, and millinery for: the 2019 film H is for Happiness; Kira O’Reilly (Unhallowed Arts SymbioticA 2018); Kabuki Drop (iOTA The Average Joe 2017); PTC (Alienation 2013, Equus 2009); the WA Military History Re-enactment Group (2014); Strategic Art Services; Kate Wilson Events; Black Swan Theatre; Daryl Brandwood (Helix 2011); Felicity Bott (In the Dark 2010); and coordinated the creation of Millinery with her students for the Black Swan production of Far Away (2008). Fleur also worked with Royale de Luxe on the 2015 Perth International Arts Festivals spectacular, The Giants, as the Australian Wardrobe Supervisor.

In 2019, Fleur, and design coordinator, Leaf Watson, collaborated with NIDA and VCA design staff and students to design and install the Prague Quadrennial Australian Student scenography exhibition. In the 2015 and 2011 Quadrennial’s she and her students designed and created costumes for street performance programs as part of Scenofest.
