Saxophone Academy

Come and join our brand-new Saxophone Academy at WAAPA!

Extend your performance and ensemble skills by being a part of a saxophone ensemble. This course is designed to prepare secondary school-aged saxophonists with ensemble and performance opportunities, to enhance their rehearsal skills and saxophone technique within an ensemble context.

Students will develop core skills needed to be a confident and effective ensemble player both in the rehearsal room and on stage!  They will learn the importance of warming up, confidently preparing their parts with a focus on rhythm and musicality, and performance preparation. Weekly rehearsals will support students as they learn new skills and develop their self-confidence as they collaborate on exciting repertoire, as a team. They will be guided by professional saxophonists and educators, passionate about empowering the next generation of saxophonists.

Up to 20 places are available; booking is done on a term-by-term basis. Students can elect to play on soprano, alto, tenor or baritone saxophone, whichever they feel most proficient. No audition is required, although students are expected to be currently playing at approximately an AMEB Grade 5 level or above. If you have been playing saxophone for a few years, and are ready for a fun challenge, this course is for you!

This ensemble course will include:

  • Weekly two-hour rehearsals on Saturday afternoons during school term on a diverse range of repertoire
  • Performance opportunities (including our very own feature at the Massed Sax Festival in May!)
  • Guest lecturers
  • A fun, interactive environment where you can meet like-minded saxophonists and learn new skills.
