Echolocation

Directed by Michael Barlow, Sam Fox and Michael Whaites
Performed by LINK Dance Company (BPA Honours), 2nd and 3rd Year Performance Making students with Music students

A HOMAGE TO OUR HISTORY AND HOME
Join us for a unique site-based performance across WAAPA that celebrates over 40 years of creativity and community. Echolocation brings together three distinct cohorts from WAAPA's Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) programs in collaboration with Michael Barlow, Associate Director of Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, creating a huge cast of 60 performers. Step behind WAAPA’s doors for a guided journey through a living maze of studios, corridors, and secret nooks. Echolocation is a site-wide walking performance that unfolds differently for every audience member. At each turn you may encounter dance, puppetry, spoken word, or an unexpected burst of music and light. Three distinct pathways, crafted by separate student cohorts, run simultaneously. You will be guided every step of the way.

When purchasing your ticket please choose your preference of pathway or let us choose for you!

  • Pathway 1: BPA Second Year
  • Pathway 2: BPA Third Year
  • Pathway 3: Honours – LINK Dance Company & Performance Making Honours students

All 60 plus performers will perform together at the beginning and the end of the performance. Each pathway lasts around an hour and reveals only part of the whole; the thrill lies in knowing parallel worlds are unfolding just out of sight.

Expect standing, walking, and the occasional stair. Comfortable shoes recommended and curiosity essential.

Please contact box office for more information if mobility is a concern.

Original music/sound composition for LINK Dance Company in 2025 is proudly supported by Karen Field.
